The Fruit Of Righteousness

apostolic prayers

May you always be filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. Philippians 1:11

The close of this prayer contains a beautiful petition to God. Paul understood that  when Jesus Christ died on the cross and raised from the dead, he not only removed sins, but he also freely gave his righteousness to those who believe. This is why Paul prayed that believers may always be filled with the fruit and outworking of their salvation and having right standing with God.

In Christ believers have been given new hearts and are new creations. In him, God’s people are made to be good trees. “They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.” (Isaiah 61:3)

Notice how this passage in Isaiah says it is, “for the display of his splendor” and this prayer in Philippians says it is “to the glory and praise of God.” It’s important to grasp that the righteousness Christ gives to believers is not something that is only given so that the individual believer knows they’ve been made right with God, but also so that the result of that right standing with God would be demonstrated on the earth for the ultimate purpose of God’s glory being manifested and recognized by others.

What a privilege and high calling it is to be filled with the fruit of Christ’s righteousness!

We encourage you to press in during your own times of prayer for your life to be continually filled with the outworking and result of being in right standing with God.

As you bear ever-increasing fruit, may others come to know the Lord Jesus Christ through your life and may God receive all of the glory.
