Old and New

identity in christ

And you were dead in your trespasses and sins in which you previously walked according to the ways of this world…But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love that He had for us, made us alive together with Christ…
Ephesians 2:1, 4-5

One very important truth for all believers to understand  in regards to living “in him” is that before we believed in Christ, we were dead in our sins. That is to say that sin was reigning over us and causing us to be alienated from fellowship with God. Now that we have received God’s gracious gift, we are dead to sin in Christ and reconciled to God in right standing. Jesus has removed all our sins, broken the power of sin, purified our souls and made us alive in him. We are born again of a new and imperishable seed – the seed of God. (1 Peter 1:23, 1 John 3:9)

In Christ, grace reigns. God’s grace is available to empower all of us to live the life he created us to live.

Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him
Romans 6:8

As followers of Christ, we must no longer identify with sin. We ought to identify with being dead to sin. He’s given us a new identity, it’s alive in Christ.

In order to walk in this, it’s important to believe and receive this truth on a consistent basis. It must become the new way of thinking.

If you are a believer struggling to live in sin, it is our heart to see you get free from that, because God’s working power is available on your behalf to bring complete freedom into your reality and life. We encourage you to confess your sin, repent (change your mind) and receive God’s promise that he will cleanse you of all unrighteousness. After you’ve done this, guard your mind against identifying with sin and continue to set your mind on your new identity in Christ. Talk to God and thank him for the truths of your new identity and his supernatural power that he wants to work on your behalf as you believe in him.

We challenge you to actively apply this scripture in your relationship with God.

Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.
Romans 6:13
