In Christ Alone

identity in christ

And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.”
Colossians 1:18

The English thesaurus lists words such as, “greatest, top, most important and best” as synonyms for the word preeminent. The Greek word for preeminent means, “I am chief and first.”

There is nothing else and no one else to worship above or next to the Lord Jesus Christ. The Father sent his Son, Jesus, to be the Savior of the world; the representation and express image of who he is. After living a sinless life, Christ laid his life down on the cross, rose from the dead and ascended to the right hand of the Father and sent the Holy Spirit to glorify Jesus in and through those who believe. Christ is preeminent!

As you’re maturing and developing in Christ it’s important to understand that your new identity is not in “Christ + others”. Your new identity is in Christ alone; Jesus + nothing. He is all in all.
Before we go deeper, take a sober moment and welcome him afresh to rule and reign on your heart’s throne. Recognize him as the top, most important, supreme and best person ever! Recognize him as the one who removed your sins and exposed that you are valuable to God. Recognize him as the one who loved you in your darkest hour and gave his life so that you could live.

This is something that has powerfully impacted our lives as we have daily surrendered our hearts to the reality that Jesus is first and the center of everything. With an honest and sincere heart, we encourage you to pray out,

“Lord, forgive me for ever putting my identity in anyone or anything else and give me strength to understand who you are and who I am in you.”
“O’ Lord I want you to have supremacy in my heart.”
