Fully Able

apostolic prayers

…And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may be fully able, with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ… Ephesians 3:17-18

In the beginning, God created mankind in his image. God is love and  he made people to be love. When Adam and Eve rebelled against God, they no longer walked only in love, but their nature became selfish, like the enemy. When God sent his Son, it was for a greater purpose than only taking believers to heaven. Christ also came to reconcile people to God and restore them back to their true, original created purpose of bearing God’s image of love.

All believers are called to be rooted, grounded and established in love now that they have been born again, and are dead to the old and alive in the new. For truly, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:8

Notice how Paul prays that believers, “may be fully able” to grasp the love of Christ. Often times, people think they could never grasp God’s love, yet this passage prays for all the saints to be fully able to grasp the love of Christ. Praise God that he has invited us all into this deep level of intimacy!

The more you grasp and understand God’s love, the more that understanding will shape and form your life to look like his.

If the three steps below are practical for you, we encourage you to take them…

  1. In a time of prayer, surrender everything that has kept you from believing you can understand or receive God’s love.
  2. Open your heart to God in prayer and communion and intentionally receive his love demonstrated through Christ.
  3. Be diligent to daily and purposefully press in, remain in and stay focused on God’s love.
