Pray Out Thankfully

godly perspectives

Sometimes people talk about counting their blessings as a way to help them go to sleep. It’s a great idea, but what about also counting your blessings and being thankful as a way to help you stay on track while you’re awake?

Learning to be prayerfully thankful on a moment to moment basis is a powerful way to walk in daily victory in your thought life.

Scripture tells us to,  “Pray without ceasing” and also, “Be thankful in all circumstances.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17-18) Putting these two together helps develop a lifestyle of thankful prayer. The more time you spend in thankful prayer, the less time you’ll be able to spend complaining or in a mindset of lack. Again, diligence is key in this process. If you are not already doing this, we are encouraging you to revolutionize the way you think and pray.

We’ve seen many believers petition God for things he has already done, instead of receiving those things thankfully through prayer. Of course, you have freedom to petition the Lord about anything his Spirit leads you, but there is a place to be aware of what God has already done and  receive it through thankful prayer.

Here is a practical example…

Prayer: Lord, we ask that you would be with us.

Thankful prayer: Lord, we thank you that you promised you will be with us always, even to the end of the age. Thank you that you paid the highest price to make a way for your home to be in us. We receive that you’ve given us your Holy Spirit and thank you that you are here with us forevermore.

Therefore, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7
