Peace At All Times

apostolic prayers

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. 2 Thessalonians 3:16

In these apostolic prayers, Paul is revealing more of God’s character. He is showing him to be  the source of hope, encouragement, comfort and peace.

Through knowing God’s character and Word, believers can have a deep confidence that it is God’s heart and will to give them peace at all times. However, that does not mean that every situation of life will be calm and smooth sailing. Unquestionably, in this life there are many difficult experiences and situations that can try to pull believers away from God’s peace, but “God will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast because he trusts in him.” (Isaiah 26:3)

The peace God gives is a deep inner peace that cannot be shaken by anything. This peace flows from being made right with God through Christ and the indwelling presence of his Spirit. For truly, “Since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…” (Romans 5:1) and again, “the fruit of the Spirit is… peace.” (Galatians 5:23)

God wants to give you peace at all times. Think about it, God himself is the Lord of peace and is at peace all the time. He wants to give us all his peace. There is never a moment where God is on his throne worried, anxious or fearful. If he is on your heart’s throne, can you not also experience his constant peace?

Remember when Jesus was in a boat with his disciples and they were caught in a violent storm, yet Jesus was sleeping peacefully? He awoke at peace within himself and brought peace to the wind and waves. Afterward, he rebuked his disciples for being fearful. Jesus powerfully models not letting storms take away the peace that God gives.

We encourage you to not let what happens in life determine your measure of peace, but rather let what the Lord Jesus has already accomplished be your unchanging peace.

If there is anything that is trying to steal your peace and replace it with fear, worry and anxiety, we urge you to take time in prayer, bear your heart before the Lord, confess and receive the Lord’s peace.
