May God Direct Your Hearts

apostolic prayers

May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ. 2 Thessalonians 3:5

This scripture reveals there is a direction the Lord wants our hearts to be going.  Every Shepherd who leads out his sheep, does not lead them out with no direction. He knows where he is leading them. Jesus is the Shepherd who is guiding his followers, and the place he wants to lead them all to is the love of God.

The love of God is revealed through him sending his Son and Christ dying on the cross. In order for Christ to accomplish that work, he had to walk in complete steadfastness. This should serve as a great encouragement – the Lord was willing to be steadfast through suffering in order to reveal his love. What great love the Father has lavished on us!

As God directs your heart toward his love, it should cause you to continually see Jesus and his great sacrifice. As you see his selfless sacrifice, you should be reminded of his endurance and steadfastness. As you gaze upon Christ’s love and remember his steadfastness, you can receive empowerment from the Holy Spirit to grow in walking like him.

Remember, we all are called to be imitators of Christ and follow him. “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:18)

May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.
