Knowledge Of His Will

apostolic prayers

We have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God… Colossians 1:9-10

This apostolic prayer reveals powerful truth that can strengthen believers to  walk in a manner pleasing to the Lord.

We want to be clear, there is certainly value in obtaining human knowledge and earthly information, yet there can be a danger when you only try to apply earthly knowledge to your relationship with God. God is limitless and often times defies earthly knowledge with his supernatural power.

Here are two short examples to clarify…

  1. Earthly knowledge can tell you every reason why a dead person stays dead, but God’s supernatural power and will is the reason Jesus Christ is living forevermore.
  2. “My speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:4-5)

We want to emphasize the importance of you personally seeking in your prayer life to obtain the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. As you’re filled with the knowledge of his will, that is how you can bear much fruit and grow in the deep, personal and intimate knowledge of God.

As you know him more and are doing the good works that he has prepared for you, you will be walking in a manner that is pleasing to the Lord.

The only way Paul was able to pen this prayer was through an authentic relationship with God and the power of the Holy Spirit. God has opened the way through a relationship with him to know his will and be filled with spiritual wisdom and understanding. We encourage you to never trade the relationship you can have with God for mere head knowledge.
