God of Hope

apostolic prayers

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

In the last blog, we shared how scripture reveals God as the God of encouragement and endurance. In the verse above, we see he is also the God of hope. The world’s “wisdom” says people shouldn’t “get their hopes up”, yet Scripture reveals,  “we have this hope as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul…” (Hebrews 6:19)

The world’s experience of disappointment is what causes them to teach people to not get their hopes up. They think what they are teaching is “wisdom” when it’s actually deception that comes as a result of them putting their hope in something false. Whoever puts their hope in something false will inevitably experience disappointment.

For the believer, our hope isn’t in circumstances or any earthly thing that can disappoint, but rather it is secure in the Lord Jesus Christ. Indeed, “…we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be strongly encouraged.” (Hebrews 6:18)

If you are not grounded in hope, there is potential to fall into despair. If you settle into despair, you will miss out on living in joy and peace. As you intentionally seek to trust in the God of hope, he will fill you with joy and peace regardless of your circumstances. The result of the joy and peace that comes causes you to overflow with hope by the power of God’s Holy Spirit.

We encourage you to confess out to God anything or anyone you’ve been placing your hope in that is not Christ. Commit today to trust in the God of hope no matter your circumstances, so he can fill you with his joy and peace and cause you to overflow with hope!
