Eternal Comfort

apostolic prayers

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word. 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

In this short prayer there is much truth and encouragement for us all.  Here we again read that the Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father love us! The reality of this love is something we all should bask in and dwell on every day. We want to encourage you to simply take time and receive the love God has for you. As you receive from him, allow your heart to turn away from everything that’s not of him.

This prayer teaches that along with the love God has poured out to us all, he has also given us two beautiful gifts – eternal comfort and good hope through grace. What a gracious and generous God he is!

One way that God gives eternal comfort is through the Holy Spirit whom he gives to those who believe. The Holy Spirit is the Comforter. Daily, we all ought to practice having communion and fellowship with the Holy Spirit and intentionally receiving his comfort.

God has also given good hope through grace by the eternal promise of Christ and his resurrection that believers share in. This hope is a steadfast anchor and completely certain because Christ Jesus has defeated death! Fixing your eyes upon Jesus and all he has accomplished is a powerful way to live in this hope.

The more you receive his eternal comfort and the good hope he has given through his grace, the more your heart will be established in doing and saying all that God has called you to.
