Belt Of Truth

the armor of god

Make me know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths… Lead me in your truth and teach me.

Psalm 25:4-5

In the last blog, we mentioned how God has given us tools and weapons to overcome the schemes of the  enemy. Ephesians 6 tells us about the Armor of God and over the next weeks, we want to share a few nuggets about each piece to help you overcome.

“Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth…” Ephesians 6:14

Just as light is always more powerful than darkness, truth is always stronger than a lie. However, when a lie is being believed as the truth, it has extremely devastating effects. Often times when one is struggling, they are focusing on or believing lies – this is why it’s so important to be able to identify what is a lie and what is the truth.

Jesus said, “you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32) He also said, “I am the truth”. (John 14:6) When we talk about knowing the truth, we are not talking about having mere head knowledge and information. We are talking about having an intimate relationship with Jesus himself and knowing him for who he truly is and receiving who you are now through what he has done.

As you grow in knowing the truth, we encourage you to be intentional about storing it up in your heart, so that you are ready on every occasion. By God’s grace, you can change your mind and focus on truth. As you do, you will have victory over these lies. We are not saying your feelings and emotions will change immediately. What we are saying is in the Holy Spirit you can overcome your feelings by living through faith in the truth. “…if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.” (Romans 8:13)

The belt of truth will hold you together. As you know the truth and are conscious to set your mind on the truth, you will have strength and security to overcome.

Surely you heard of Him and were taught in Him in keeping with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught to put off your former way of life, your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be renewed in the spirit of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:21-24
