A Good Tree

godly perspectives

Make a tree good and its fruit will be good… Matthew 12:33

When we came to Christ, we became a new creation. Before that, we were born into Adam and corrupted by sin. Now through Christ,  the old life is dead and the new life has come. Christ makes us good trees through what he’s done. It’s important to know that as we have faith that his work has made us right and good, his grace will empower us to live out our purpose.

Jesus is the new and living way and he gives us a new heart and fills us with his Spirit. Through what Christ has done, God’s word is fulfilled,

‘Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. ‘I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes…’ Ezekiel 36:26

Too many times believers look at the fruit of their life and see what they don’t want and assume they are still a bad tree. So often they try harder to change their fruit on their own. Yet in order to produce good fruit, you must be a good tree.

Instead, the children of God must understand that they have been made good trees through Jesus. That means they must see themselves no longer as the old life, but as new creations in Christ. Therefore, it’s not about waiting to fail – it’s about believing he has made those who depend on him new and righteous, as well as receiving the abundance of grace that naturally empowers that belief to produce good fruit.

Here’s an example of communing with God around this…

Abba Father, I’m so thankful that through Christ I can live out my purpose in the Holy Spirit and I don’t have to be who you never created me to be. I thank you that you are teaching me how to set my mind on the truth of my new identity in you. Thank you for making me a good tree and giving me everything I need to produce good fruit through the personal and full knowledge of you. In Jesus name, amen.
